The story of FREEBIE

I've been called Freebie by friends since I was still a "dam teenager". Born in the heart of Cajun country, raised on the bayou, and filled with the folklore of the swamplands. I was raised around the mysteries of Voodoo, and tales of the fantastic. I've a strong sense of heritage that tempers and drives my musical odyssey. Players and bluesmen like Jorma Kaukonen, Stephen Stills, Eric Clapton, Elmore James, Robert Johnson and Doc Watson were the people that inspired my playing style and technique. I learned to play early, completely by ear. Copying the guitar licks as I heard them. To this day as I listen to tunes I thought Id learned as a kid I find that I hear things differently now. I guess age has its advantages.

I never really made it to the crossroads, they was too dam far!

After letting the guitar gather dust for a decade or so, I felt a calling to get back to the root of the matter. I spent a great weekend up in St. Francisville with one of my guitar heroes Jorma Kaukonen of Hot Tuna, and since then I cant get enough. I really love to play the Blues, the old style finger pickin blues. The songs that were sung about daily life, women, fightin, killin, and drinkin. Not necessarily in that order. I believe that the blues are a truly unique style of music. Unique to the southern states, that has spread around the country, around the world. Still the stories need to be told over and over again, in new and unique ways. I feel I am capable and compelled to do this, through original writings, and retelling of the classics.
I dont have a real music background, I dont think of myself as a musician. Im a guitar player. Its what I am, deep down inside. I gotta let it out, one note, one song at a time. So I hope you appreciate the long years, endless nights, and countless pages of ripped up lyrics that go into every performance of BLOOZE HOWNZ! Understand its my forever dream, and join me in its realization. So pull up a chair, sip on your drink, sit back and relax. Enjoy a therapy session of the blooze!
